Do you want to help elucidate the critical immune reactions in the chronic autoimmune disease rheumatoid arthritis? With such information we aim to develop a new generation of targeted therapies aiming at cure and prevention of disease.

The Rheumatology Division at the Department of Medicine, Solna performs translational research to dissect the molecular mechanisms leading to severe chronic rheumatic diseases. It comprises several independent groups involved in research and doctoral education working in a collaborative atmosphere towards a better understanding of rheumatic diseases.

The Malmström research group focuses on adaptive immunity, and has many close collaborations both in the lab and in the clinic.

Your mission

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disease characterized by a strong genetic influence from certain MHC class II genes and autoantibodies to modified proteins, but we still don’t know which are the most critical autoantigens that elicit the autoimmunity. You will use methods such as fluorospot and full spectrum flow cytometry to assess T cell reactivity in patient research samples. You will also explore the autoreactive T cell receptor (TCR) repertoire by molecular biology techniques and subsequent bioinformatics tools.

Your profile

The candidate should have a strong track record in cellular immunology including experience working with lymphocytes. Previous experience working with primary human cells is a merit. A merit is one or more first author publications within the topic of cell immunology. You are fluent in English and highly collaborative and curious.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a phd or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish phd is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of ten divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of Vivianne Malmström.

The rheumatology research laboratories are located in the Center for Molecular Medicine at Karolinska Institutet (www.cmm.ki.se) which is a vibrant, translational research center with around 500 scientists, student and other collaborators of more than 50 nationalities The Rheumatology research groups with about 70 members are all working to understand origins of immune-mediated rheumatic diseases with the aim to reach better prevention and therapy. The group led by professor Vivianne Malmström works mainly with adaptive immunity with an emphasis on T cell specificity and regulation in RA and other immune-mediated rheumatic diseases.
