The Institute of Mechanical Engineering – IDMEC is opening a call for

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship

Apoiado pela medida “RE-C05-i08.M04 – “Apoiar o lançamento de um programa de projetos de I&D orientado para o desenvolvimento e implementação de sistemas avançados de cibersegurança, inteligência artificial e ciência de dados na administração pública, bem como de um programa de capacitação científica”, do Plano de Recuperação e Resiliência – PRR, enquadrado no contrato de financiamento celebrado entre a Estrutura de Missão Recuperar Portugal (EMRP) e a Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia I.P. (FCT), enquanto beneficiário intermediário.

Applications are open for 1 post-doctoral research fellowship, within the framework of project MS-MRS-RAIL (2024.07324.IACDC), supported by “RE-C05-i08.M04”, from the PRR, within the contract between EMRP and FCT, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Structural and Computational Mechanics

Admission Requirements:

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

1. to hold a PhD degree obtained in the 3 years previously to the submission of the fellowship application;
2. to have carried out the research work that led to the PhD degree in a different entity from the host institution of the fellowship;
3. Not to exceed, with this fellowship contract, including the possible renovations, an accumulated period of 3 years in this type of fellowship, continuously or with interruptions;
4. Not to have previously held a post-doctoral fellowship from IDMEC;
5. Previous research experience in the domain of railway technology and railway systems.

Workplan and the objectives to achieve:

Develop computational models to assess risk and safety in railway systems; application of models to case studies; support in the submission of proposals for research, innovation and development actions to different national and international calls.

Workplace: The work will be developed at IDMEC - Institute of Mechanical Engineering, being both the Host and Contracting Entity, and under the scientific supervision of Professor António Ramos Andrade.

Duration: The research fellowship will have the duration of 7 months. It’s expected to begin in July 2025, and may be eventually renewed up to the maximum stated by the law or the end of the project.

Monthly maintenance allowance: According to the values for Research Fellowships awarded by FCT in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/fct-atualizou-o-valor-das-bolsas-para-2025/),the amount of the monthly maintenance allowance is € 1851, being the payment method by Wire Transfer.

Selection methods: The selection methods will be the following: Curriculum evaluation (60%) and research in railway systems (40%).

Composition of the selection Jury: Professor António Ramos Andrade (president), Professor Virginia Infante and Professor Jorge Ambrósio.

Announcement/ notification of the results: The final evaluation results will communicated to all applicants by email.

After be notified, candidates have 10 working days to submit a formal rebuttal, by email.

Application deadline and formalization: The call is open in the period between 9th and 25th June 2025, until 18:00, 2025.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships

It is mandatory to formalize applications with the submission of the following documents: Curriculum Vitae; academic degree certificate; motivation letter; declaration on honour that the applicant does not exceed with this contract an accumulated period of three years in this type of fellowship, continuously or with interruptions, within the technological and scientific system, and that the research work that led to the PhD degree was carried out in a different entity from the host institution of the fellowship.
