Job Summary/offer: The postdoctoral position is located at the Center for Biological Sciences, Department of Molecular Genetics and Animal Breeding at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna.The research focus of the group is on the structural and functional analysis of folded RNA and tRNA molecules. The group studies three-dimensional structures and functions of complex RNA molecules and tries to understand how the insertion of chemical groups at specific sites of RNA molecules alters their function. The group has recently developed novel biophysical methods to precisely measure the folding and stability of RNA molecules. This methodology will now be used to identify optimal folding protocols and conditions for different RNA molecules and domains. In addition, the sequence of complex modification patterns and their effects on RNA folding will be understood. Furthermore, mutations in the RNAs themselves or in the modifying enzymes involved are thought to be responsible for the development of serious diseases. The research group therefore aims to investigate the molecular effects of specific mutations and to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches based on these findings.We are looking for a scientist with experience in the structural and functional characterization of folded nucleic acids
