“Development of molecular assays for the detection of emerging pathogens in human samples”

Job description

We are looking for a motivated researcher to join our team in developing next-generation diagnostic solutions for pathogens of critical importance to Europe and the world. The successful applicant will play a central role in designing and developing novel molecular assays targeting high-priority pathogens, including emerging viruses such as SARS and Arboviruses, as well as major public health threats like Legionella and Salmonella. This work will not only contribute to scientific innovation but also foster the creation of intellectual property (IP)., accelerate the pathway from bench to end-users, and help to build tools that safeguard citizens’ health and society’s preparedness to emerging threats.

The successful applicant will contribute to scientific excellence and innovation-driven research, participate in technology transfer events, contribute towards the broad dissemination of scientific results and develop skills related to presentations, report-writing and scientific papers writing.

Project Description:

DxHub will develop a strong ecosystem reinforcing actors from two widening countries to consolidate individual efforts into a common cutting-edge R&I plan, thus, accelerating innovations in diagnostics into impactful solutions by embracing the quadruple helix (researchers, government, industry, the public). Close collaboration with clinicians, scientists and engineers will be part of this multidisciplinary 3-year project. The successful candidate will work closely with collaborators at the ITQB-NOVA and IHMT-NOVA Universities in Portugal, as well as industrial partners both in Greece and in Portugal.

Lab Description:

The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary group consisting of biologists, chemists, engineers, bio-physicists and material scientists focusing on the development of diagnostic/biosensing platforms for environmental and healthcare applications (human, plant-food and animals) with emphasis on translating laboratory innovations into real-world solutions.
