The aim of the project is to develop and optimize an innovative method for utilizing new ultracold, strongly polar, and strongly polar and magnetic molecules in optical tweezers and lattices to realize a new generation of ultracold molecular qubits and two-qubit quantum gates. In the first stage, we will thoroughly investigate the structure and quantum control capabilities of the proposed strongly polar molecules. Next, we will develop an optimal method for encoding qubit states on the most promising molecules. In the second stage, we will focus on designing optimal two-qubit gates based on strong dipole interactions and the control of molecules with optical tweezers. Finally, the proposed molecular quantum computer architecture will be investigated for its use in real-world quantum computing and other applications, such as quantum simulations and precise quantum measurements.


The candidate is expected to know theoretical methods for calculating quantum dynamics and control. We also expect experience in programming, motivation and independence in solving scientific problems.


The planned employment will be realized within the project „ Ultracold Polar Molecules for Quantum Technologies “ financed by the Foundation for Polish Science within the First Team FENG program grant of which prof. dr hab. Michał Tomza is the main contractor. The planned employment period is for 36 months. .


The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018. (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2024, item 1571 with further amendments).


Skills/Qualifications

The candidate is expected to know theoretical methods for calculating quantum dynamics and control. We also expect experience in programming, motivation and independence in solving scientific problems. The call is open to persons meeting the conditions specified in art. 113 of the Act of 20 July 2018 - Law on Higher Education and Science (Polish Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, as amended).


Specific Requirements

- Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)

- Holding a doctoral degree for no longer than 7 years (counting subsequent years from the year following the award of the doctoral degree). This period is extended by 1 year for each born or adopted child for women, and 1 year for each child for men, provided that they have taken breaks from work for at least 6 consecutive months. Furthermore, a 1-year extension is granted, regardless of gender, in the event of a break in research work for other reasons lasting at least 6 consecutive months.

- Significant scientific achievements

- Preparing a plan for further research activities

- International experience



In addition, we expect:

- Knowledge of theoretical methods for calculating quantum dynamics and control

- Motivation and independence in solving scientific problems. If hired, we expect the University of Warsaw to be the primary workplace for the successful candidate.


Criteria for the assessment of candidates in the competition:

- Fulfilment of the requirements set out in Article 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text)

- A PhD in physics or related sciences obtained from an entity other than the entity where employment for this position is planned; the PhD should be obtained before starting employment and no earlier than seven years before the year of employment. This period may be extended in the event of parental leave or sick leave.

- Interest in the subject and motivation for research.

- Knowledge of quantum mechanics, including theoretical methods for calculating quantum dynamics and control, and experience in programming.
