A Post-doctoral Research Fellowship (BIPD) (Reference REQUIMTE 2025-79) on the project SynergyMeCO2 – “Membranas sinergísticas e sustentáveis para captura e valorização do CO2: na rota da neutralidade carbónica” with reference 2023.16806.ICDT, supported by national funds by FCT / MECI, is available at REQUIMTE.

Admission requirements:

The candidates must hold a PhD in Materials Engineering, Chemistry or similar scientific areas, obtained in the previous three years to the date of submission of the application, and have proven experience in the synthesis and characterization of metal-organic frameworks, carbon materials, mixed matrix membranes, as well as in gas adsorption methods and catalytic processes.

The host institution where the research work was developed that led to the attribution of the candidate's doctoral degree must be different from Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde - Tecnologias e Processos Limpos.

In case the doctorate degree was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of 16th August, and all formalities established therein must be complied until the signature of the contract.

Workplan:

Within the scope of the SynergyMeCO2 project, the research fellow will be involved in the following activities:

a) preparation and development of metal-organic frameworks, carbon materials obtained from waste, as well as mixed-matrix membranes;

b) characterization of the various materials and membranes using solid-state structural analysis methods;

c) evaluation of the gas adsorption capacity (particularly CO2) and the catalytic performance in CO2 valorization reactions of the materials and membranes;

d) presentation of the work developed at national/international conferences, and support to the Principal Investigator in student training, preparation of progress reports, and publications.

Work Place: The work will be carried out at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade do Porto, under the supervision of Luís Manuel Cunha Silva (Researcher at LAQV / REQUIMTE).

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will have duration of 6 months, expected to start on 1st January 2026. The scholarship contract may be renewed for equal periods up to a maximum duration of 36 months.

Monthly stipend:

Monthly stipend is €1.851 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Tabela_valores_SMM_2025.p…). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis. The successful candidate will also be entitled to the reimbursement of Social Security payments (Seguro Social Voluntário) and work insurance.

Selection criteria: The selection methods will be:

1) Integrated assessment of the candidate’s academic trajectory, based on an overall view of their scientific merit:

i. motivation letter (5%)

ii. overall scientific coherence of the CV (15%)

iii. diversity and quality of scientific indicators (publications) in the specific areas of the announcement (20%)

iv. participation in research projects and supervision of students (10%)

2) Relevant and proven CV experience in:

i. synthesis and development of metal-organic frameworks (10%)

ii. preparation of carbon materials from waste (10%)

iii. preparation of mixed-matrix membranes (10%)

iv. characterization using solid-state structural analysis methods (5%) v. studies of gas adsorption and heterogeneous catalytic processes (15%)

In the case of admitted candidates whose evaluation does not differ more than 10% from that obtained by the best positioned candidate, the jury will interview these candidates. In this situation, the value of the interview is 30%.

The jury will not award the current scholarship to candidates with a final classification lower than 50%.

Publicity and communication of results:

The ranking of applications will be published at a visible and public area of REQUIMTE facilities, and all candidates will be informed by email about the result of their application.
