The contracts for an open-ended period of time will be entered into within the scope of project 2023.11681.PEX, entitled New Tests of Axion Physics, with a start date of February 1, 2026, and will remain in effect until the completion of the Work Plan referred to in 2., under an exclusivity regime.

2. Work Plan:

The selected candidates will perform tasks within the scope of project 2023.11681.PEX, New Tests of Axion Physics, including:

• • Theoretical research in axion physics (QCD and ALPs);
• • Modeling of dark matter production through axion domain walls;
• • Study of scalar field interaction phenomena;
• • Analytical and numerical development of models for gravitational and electromagnetic signals;
• • Production and publication of scientific articles;
• • Participation in supervision, training, and scientific dissemination.

Specific Requirements

3. Contract start date and workplace:

The contracts are scheduled to start on February 1, 2026, and will remain in effect until its completion from the Work Plan referred to in 2.

The work will be carried out in the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra.

4. Monthly remuneration: The gross monthly remuneration to be granted is 2,351.53 Euros, under an exclusive contract, an amount that is in accordance with one of the Levels of the Salary Table (NTS) for an Entry-Level Researcher, at level 1, corresponding to NTS 33, equivalent to the same level of the Single Remuneration Table approved by Ordinance No. 1553-C/2008, of December 31, in its current version, to which are added the equivalent of holiday and Christmas allowances, as well as the meal allowance, at the amount and under the conditions provided for workers with an employment relationship under the terms of the Labor Code.

Eligibility criteria

5. Candidate Profile:

Eligible candidates for the competition are national citizens, foreigners, and stateless persons who possess a scientific curriculum suitable for the functions to be performed. In particular, the candidates must have the following requirements:

• • PhD in Physics or a related scientific field;
• • Proven knowledge in axion physics, theoretical cosmology, or particle astrophysics;
• • Relevant scientific production in the competition area;
• • Proficiency in English;
• • Recognition of the degree (if obtained abroad) by the end of the application period.

We emphasize that academic degrees obtained in foreign countries need to be recognized by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16, and Ordinance No. 33/2019, of January 25.
