Valorization of biorefineries side products through the development of sustainable thermosets and composites

Opportunity: Applications are invited for a fully funded 12 months (if satisfactory results the duration can be extended for a total 24 months) post doc in synthetic molecular & macromolecular chemistry and materials science under the supervisions of Pr. Alice MIJA at the University Côte d’Azur. The position is immediately available and is open to applications from UK/EU students without further restrictions.

Project: The central goal of this project is to valorise biorefinery’s side products into high value sustainable materials. This work is in collaboration with GFBiochemicals, an R&D company, and have a strong focus on the characterization of some side products generated by biorefinery in order to identify their potential to generate high value products. Then, these side products will be chemically modified in order to develop innovative and sustainable materials. The focus of this project will be to develop greener, intensified functionalization strategies using renewable and non-toxic synthons.

Candidate: Eligible candidates should have a PhD degree in applied chemistry with an experience in organic and/or macromolecular synthesis. First-hand experience in fine chemistry is highly desirable. A highly motivated and dedicated student will gain a thorough training in macromolecular chemistry and material sciences be rewarded with a highly stimulating project that will shape the future of a potential industrial route for the production of bio-based thermosets and composites.
