Postdoctoral research fellow (m/f/d) in the field of Scandinavian Linguistics with full-time employment (100%) - E 13 TV-L HU (third-party funding limited to three years)

The research project “The life cycle of extravagance and conventionalization. Pleonastic evaluative constructions across languages and time” studies usage of, and change in, pleonastic evaluative expressions (such as English the most kindest person) in Romance and in Germanic languages. It is a WEAVE project, jointly funded by the German DFG and the Belgian F.R.S.-FNRS and consists of a postdoc position (HU Berlin, with a focus on Germanic languages) and a PhD position (UCLouvain, with a focus on Dutch and Romance languages).

Job description:

• • scientific services in research in the field of Scandinavian (historical) linguistics
• • participation in the WEAVE-project “The life cycle of extravagance and conventionalization. Pleonastic evaluative constructions across languages and time” (DFG – F.R.S.-FNRS)
• • corpus-driven research
• • presentation of project results at scientific conferences as well as in scientific publications

Requirements:

• • completed scientific university degree and a PhD in Scandinavian Studies or Linguistics
• • profound knowledge of empirical methods and Scandinavian (historical) corpora
• • solid proficiency (at least C1) in Danish or Swedish
• • solid proficiency (at least C1) in German or Icelandic
• • solid proficiency (at least C1) in English
• • profound knowledge of the history of the Scandinavian languages
• • high degree of independence, intercultural competence and ability to work in a team
