ANNOUNCES A CALL FOR APLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF 

12 MONTH POST-DOC IN THE 

LABORATORY FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH INTO THE ANTHROPOCENE

The subject of the offer is a 12-month post-doc position within the National Science Centre (NCN) project entitled "Forest of the Anthropocene: the role of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in shaping modern states, societies, and environments in the 18th and 19th centuries" (no. 2024/55/I/HS3/02551). The successful candidate will be responsible for processing all selected cartographic materials from the area of the present-day Czech Republic, dating from the late 17th to the mid-20th century.

The annual salary provided for this position is 140,000 PLN (including VAT/tax).

The starting date for the position is September 1, 2026. The place of work for the successful candidate will be Warsaw. The position offers a hybrid work model.

Pursuant to NCN regulations, the person employed in this position cannot receive any other remuneration from NCN funds (in any form, under any project) and cannot be employed under an employment contract by any other employer during the period of this employment.

REQUIREMENTS:

• • a doctoral degree (PhD) in Earth and Environmental Sciences, Social and Economic Geography and Spatial Management, Forest Sciences, Civil Engineering, Geodesy and Transport, History,
• • research experience in the field of Historical GIS, environmental history, forest history, 
• • a minimum of 5 scientific publications in journals with an Impact Factor,
• • ability to work with historical data and old cartography from 18th, 19th and 20th century, 
• • knowledge of environmental and spatial data formats (including netCDF, GeoTIFF), 
• • proficiency in GIS tools (ArcGIS, QGIS), 
• • knowledge of statistical methods and time series analysis methods in environmental research
• • programming skills in Python and JavaScript are welcomed,
• • ability to work in the Google Earth Engine environment, 
• • knowledge of machine learning methods and the ability to apply them in environmental data analysis,
• • English language proficiency at a minimum level of B2,
• • proficiency in Czech, Polish or German is welcomed.
