The therapeutic potential of palladium and osmium complexes is linked to their chemotherapeutic properties and the presence of two highly promising radioisotopes: 103Pd and 191Os. These isotopes emit short-range beta radiation and Auger electrons, making them suitable for treating small tumors and tumor metastases.

We propose that by replacing non-radioactive palladium (II) and osmium (VI) in bisphosphonate and nitrido complexes with the radionuclides 103Pd and 191Os, we can create chemo radiopharmaceuticals with enhanced toxicity. The objective of our project is to develop these chemoradiopharmaceuticals using palladium bisphosphonate and osmium nitride complexes alongside the radionuclides 103Pd and 191Os. We will evaluate the cytotoxic effects of these agents against various cancer cell types, with a particular emphasis on cancer stem cells.

The resulting complexes would represent the first radio-chemotherapeutics using palladium and osmium, enabling in vivo research and potentially paving the way for clinical studies. We anticipate that synthesizing radio-chemotherapeutics with the palladium and osmium radionuclides 103Pd and 191Os will yield significantly greater cytotoxicity than their non-radioactive counterparts, especially concerning cancer stem cells. osmium radionuclides 103Pd and 191Os will result in more significant cytotoxicity compared to non-radioactive complexes, particularly in relation to cancer stem cells
