We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in a collaborative project focused on the computational design of RNA modification enzymes. The successful candidate will play a key role in selecting and designing enzyme candidates, working closely with a research engineer and experimental collaborators.

Principal activities 

• Develop and implement computational protein design strategies for engineering RNA modification enzymes.
• Analyze and select suitable RNA modification enzyme scaffolds as starting models for design.
• Utilize structure prediction and molecular modeling tools to optimize enzyme activity, specificity, and stability.
• Work with UNIX-based servers, scripting in Python and Bash to automate design workflows.
• Stay up to date with the latest advances in RNA modification, protein design, and structure prediction tools.
• Collaborate with experimental partners to validate computational predictions.
• Contribute to publications and project reports.

Job specifications and environment 

The successful candidate will join the Institut de Génomique Fonctionnelle (IGF) in Montpellier, France, within the Granier-Mouillac team. The position will be supervised by Dr. Cédric Leyrat, who leads the protein design axis of the project and specializes in computational and experimental structural biology techniques.

This position is part of an INSERM IMPACT SANTÉ-funded project aiming to design novel RNA modification enzymes for improving RNA-based therapeutics. The postdoc will work closely with a research engineer and interact with both computational and experimental collaborators.

IGF is a multidisciplinary research institute with state-of-the-art facilities, including access to high-performance computing (HPC) clusters and advanced structural biology, genomics, and proteomics platforms. The selected candidate will be fully integrated into a collaborative and dynamic environment at the intersection of computational biology, structural biology, and therapeutic innovation.

Knowledge 

• RNA modification enzymes – Strong understanding of methyltransferases (e.g., 2'-O-methylation, m6A), RNA-binding domains, and enzyme engineering.
• Computational structural biology – Experience with structure prediction (AlphaFold, Rosetta, etc.) and molecular modelling (docking, MD simulations).
• Protein and RNA interactions – Knowledge of RNA recognition principles, docking, and rational design approaches.
• Scripting and automation – Proficiency in Python and Bash scripting for computational workflows.
• UNIX-based computing – Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
