The Institute of High Energy Physics (HEPHY) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria’s leading non-university research and science institution, is offering a

POSTDOC POSITION (F/M/X) Hunting for dark matter using mechanical sensors 

(full-time)

for a duration of three years in the research group “Precision Tests of Fundamental Physics”. The position is part of a project to develop pioneering mechanical sensors and to use them to hunt for dark matter in the laboratory.

Your Tasks

• Experimental research in hunting for dark matter in the laboratory. This includes developing novel mechanical sensors using magnetically-levitated superconductors.
• Advancing the precision of gram-scale accelerometers towards the standard quantum limit and combating background noise.
• Scientific support for all R&D activities within the group
• Supervision of bachelor’s, master’s and PhD students

Your Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with:

• A PhD degree in physics
• Experience conducting precision physics experiments
• A creative approach to problem-solving
• A collaborative and team-oriented mindset
