About the position:

This is a full-time research position for a postdoctoral assistant in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The position is fully funded and offers a stimulating interdisciplinary research environment with opportunities to engage in both academic research and applied innovation projects.

The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation at Rudolfovo research institute is looking for a highly motivated early-career researcher with a PhD, who is interested in advancing research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, digitalization, and society.

We are particularly seeking candidates with strong methodological foundations in machine learning, natural language processing, explainable AI, or human-centered AI, who are also interested in the societal and ethical implications of AI technologies. A strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration and a willingness to engage with industrial and public sector partners is highly desirable.

About the organization and what you would do:

Rudolfovo (https://www.rudolfovo.eu/) is a public research institute based in Novo mesto, Slovenia. Founded in 2022, its mission is to support technological and economic development in Southeast Slovenia through advanced research and innovation in the areas of Industry 4.0, digitalization, circular economy, technology transfer, and quantum computing.

Your contribution will include:

• Independent and collaborative research in the field of AI and related topics
• Active participation in national and international research and innovation projects
• Co-supervision of PhD and MSc students (in collaboration with university partners)
• Engagement with stakeholders in academia, industry, and the public sector
• Popularization of science and scientific outreach through workshops, conferences, and education
• Contributing to the development of research infrastructure and open science practices

Qualification requirements:

• A completed PhD in computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, or a closely related field
• Proven experience in research activities (e.g., published scientific work; participation in scientific or development projects, particularly with an active role in project acquisition or implementation)
• Organizational skills
• Ability to work in a team
• Excellent proficiency in English
• Functional computer literacy
• Competencies for research work (e.g., analytical thinking, mastery of research methodology, creativity, and innovativeness)

The following will be considered an advantage:

• Experience with interdisciplinary or applied AI research
• Experience in project work or international collaboration
• Familiarity with open science principles or FAIR data
• Interest in AI policy, ethics, or social aspects of AI
• Experience in proposal writing and project management
• Knowledge of Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian, or Bosnian languages.
