Recruitment is carried out in order to employ an assistant professor (post-doc) to carry out scientific tasks in the project of the National Science Center OPUS23 "Vascular tissue engineering on granular scaffolds: experiments and modeling", 2022/45/B/ST8/03675. The appointment will be at the level of assistant professor in the Department of Modelling of Complex Systems at the Faculty of Physics, University of Warsaw, for the period of 24 months.
The project will focus on constructing a numerical model of the capillary formation process in in vitro systems, inspired by experimental observations. The primary objective of the study is to develop a theoretical model describing the formation of new capillaries during angiogenesis. Two key factors influence growth at this stage: the concentration of vascular endothelial growth factor, which is produced when cells experience hypoxia, and mechanical stresses in the extracellular matrix. The proposed research involves constructing a theoretical model, implementing it in numerical simulations, and comparing its predictions with experimental results, contributing to an improved understanding of the growth laws governing such networks.
The candidates have to conform to the conditions stated in art. 113 of Higher Education Law dated 20.07.2018 (Journal of Laws of the Republic of Poland 2024, item 1571 with further amendments).
Skills/Qualifications
The candidate should fulfil the following conditions: (i) hold PhD degree in physical sciences, mathematical sciences, earth sciences or engineering obtained not longer than seven years before appointment, (ii) have experience in mathematical modeling, simulation, data analysis and numerical methods (iii) demonstrate interest in the processes of spontaneous pattern formation in natural systems (iv) demonstrate knowledge of English allowing for communication with team members and writing scientific reports.
Specific Requirements
Additionally, the candidate must meet the conditions set by the National Science Center for people employed in a post-doc position. In particular, the person employed for this position must have a doctoral degree obtained no earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project. This period does not include breaks related to maternity leave, additional maternity leave, leave on the conditions of maternity leave, additional leave on the conditions of maternity leave, paternity leave, or parental leave granted on the terms specified in the provisions of the Labor Code or the receipt of sickness allowance or rehabilitation benefits in connection with incapacity for work, including those caused by diseases requiring medical rehabilitation. For women, the indicated 7-year period may be extended by 18 months for each child born or adopted. A woman can choose a more favourable way to indicate breaks in her scientific career.
The employment will take place in accordance with the NCN regulations, in particular the employed
person must meet the following conditions jointly:
- the principal investigator was not a supervisor or assistant supervisor of their doctoral dissertation;
- their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree;
- at the time of receiving remuneration, they will not be receiving any other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs;
- in the period of receiving the remuneration they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with registered office outside of Poland;
- during the period of receiving this remuneration, he will not receive retirement benefits from
the social security system;
- will be employed for at least 6 months.
