The University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is seeking candidates for the position of

Junior Professor (W1) of Biomathematics
(without tenure track)

for earliest possible appointment. Biomathematics (along with algebra, geometry & topology, scientific computing & computer science, and the didactics of mathematics) is one of the four key fields of research at the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science. This is also reflected in the consecutive biomathematics degree programme (at bachelor's and master's levels), which is unique in its form to Germany.

The future holder of the junior professorship will strengthen the institute’s existing research foci in the field of biomathematics. For example, research contributions in the areas of mathematical phylogenetics or biomathematical modelling are desirable. The Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science attaches great importance to the intensive supervision of students. Appropriate commitment is therefore a prerequisite. Applicants with positively evaluated teaching experience and initial success in the acquisition of third-party funding will be given preference. The University of Greifswald supports and demands family-friendly leadership.

The required qualifications are defined in § 62(1) of the Landeshochschulgesetz - LHG M-V (State Higher Education Act): a university degree, teaching aptitude and special expertise in academic work which is generally documented by an outstanding doctoral degree. If you have worked as a teaching and/or research associate or as a graduate assistant prior to or after obtaining your doctorate, the times in which you completed your doctorate and in which you were employed may not exceed a total of nine years.

In accordance with § 62(2) LHG M-V, junior professors are appointed for a period of three years as a temporary civil servant. In case of a positive evaluation after the third year, the contract is extended for a further three years.
