The iDREAM 'Neuromotor Plasticity, Regenerative Medicine and Innovative Post-Stroke Medicines' team in the ToNIC (Toulouse NeuroImaging Center) laboratory is looking to recruit a researcher to work in the field of preclinical MRI. An interest in clinical imaging is also welcome. The team comprises around thirty researchers, making it the largest in France in the field of acute brain injury, stroke and head trauma. The main task of the person recruited will be to develop and implement MRI methodologies for studying brain pathologies in animal models of brain injury. More specifically, we are looking for biomarkers of therapeutic efficacy objectified by anatomical, functional and perfusion imaging. The candidate will specialise in imaging, ideally neuroimaging, and will be in charge of preclinical 7T MRI activities. He/she will be able to develop his/her own research projects. The researcher will also be required to manage all 7T preclinical MRI activities (mice/rat/marmousets). In addition, if desired, he/she will also have access to a micro-PET scanner. Finally, ToNIC has a 3T clinical MRI scanner and a Positron Emission Tomography scanner, so the person will be in contact with the MRI/PET Technical Platform (image acquisition and processing) and the research teams. The secondary role will be to supervise the continuum between the acquisition of MRI images, working directly with the Technical Platform engineers and the applications engineers. The candidate will be able to combine his/her MRI activity with PET imaging. He/she will also be able to collaborate with researchers from the Toulouse site of the Cerco, Infinity, IRSD, I2MC, CRCT, Restore and CRCA laboratories, etc.

Main activities :

  • Manage preclinical MRI activities
  • Propose MRI development projects for acute cerebral pathologies using lesion models in animals
  • Design image acquisition protocols by choosing the most appropriate sequences
  • Improve the performance of acquisition sequences
  • Experiment with new antennae or new sequences
  • Advising researchers in research units on setting up their multimodal imaging acquisition protocols
  • Take part in teaching medical or technological specialities
  • Supervising students in the acquisition of imaging data

Associate activities :

  • Develop image data post-processing methods
  • Implement and deploy advanced image analysis methods
  • Training and supervision of students

Knowledge :

  • Be familiar with the technical principles of MRI imaging
  • Knowledge of MRI acquisition sequences
  • General knowledge of neurosciences
  • Optional: in-depth knowledge of multimodal MRI neuroimaging data processing methods (anatomical, functional)
  • Optional: Advanced image processing expertise (mathematical modelling - machine learning)
  • Computer skills. Mastery of the handling of different medical image formats

Know-how / Methodology :

  • Setting up research projects
  • Responding to research calls
  • Coordination and planning of the various phases of a research protocol
  • Experience of research and publications in scientific journals and conferences.
  • Team management

Skills :

  • Ability to take the initiative
  • Willingness to support, train and share knowledge
  • Strong team spirit and good interpersonal skills
  • A taste for rigorous work and constant innovation
  • Autonomous and highly motivated to work in a multidisciplinary team

Specificity(ies) / Constraint(s)of the position : MRI environment

Experience desired :

  • Required experience in a preclinical neuroimaging research laboratory
  • Experience in protocol development in the field of MRI (Bruker)

Diploma Desired :

  • PhD in physics, medical imaging, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, computer science or image processing

Opportunities :

  • If the candidate wants to do it, he/she will have to pass an Inserm competition to get a permanent position as junior researcher.

Composition of the unit :

The main objective of the Toulouse Neuro Imaging Center, a joint Inserm and Paul Sabatier University research unit, is to study the human brain and the main pathologies that affect it. The unit comprises 3 research teams and several technical platforms.

For a long time, it was thought that after the first few years of life, the brain had only a very limited capacity to compensate for damage. We now know that, throughout life, the brain can adapt and even repair itself...

Remuneration :From €2909.90 gross per month, based on Inserm salary scales

Desired starting date : From September 2025. Duration : minimum 2 years
