A postdoc researcher position is open in the “Photonic Elements” group, led by Prof. Dr. Taiichi OTSUJI. The Photonic Elements group at ENSEMBLE3 is dedicated to the creation and development of ultra-broadband nanophotonic devices based on advanced materials produced in ENSEMBLE3. Our focus spans both the fundamental physics of carrier transport, plasmon-polaritons, phonon-polaritons of multi-dimensional, topological materials and their practical application to THz technologies, wireless communications, as well as other nanophotonic devices, broadening the fields towards safety, security, as well as biological systems. In collaboration with the Functional Materials Technology, Electrocharacterisation & New Product, Inverse Materials Design, Light-Matter Interaction Theory, Next Generation Energy systems, Oxide Single Crystal, and III-V Compound Semiconductors groups, we rigorously verify novel material design concepts through detailed investigation of electronic, plasmonic, and electromagnetic properties. Our ultimate goal is to create device prototypes and develop new products from Ensemble3's combined research efforts.


Key responsibilities:


  • Conduct in-depth experimental and/or theoretical study on condensed matter physics, device process technology, and ultra-broadband optoelectronic measurement technology
  • Propose new ideas
  • Disseminate results to the scientific community and to the public


Profile of candidates/requirements:

  • PhD degree in applied physics, material science, electrical engineering, or similar, received no later than 12 years prior to the date of application
  • Research achievements reflected by publication track record appropriate for PhD age.
  • Experience of direct-current and alternative-current electrical characterization, laser-photonics instrumentations, and knowledge of at least a few of the following: electromagnetic full-wave simulations, device simulations, cryogenic active device measurements, Fourier-Transformed Infra-Red spectroscopy, THz Time-Domain Spectroscopy, Hall measurements, Raman microscopy, device fabrication, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Instrument control in LabVIEW or python, synthesis of 2D materials, 2D materials exfoliation and transfer process, and top-down integrated device fabrication, design and instrumentation of experiments, metrology
  • Strong motivation for science and scientific research
  • Creativity, critical thinking, organizational skills, proactive approach to perform tasks and reach objectives
  • Strong ability to work independently as well as in a team, social competence, personal responsibility
  • Strong communication skills in English
