The postdoctoral researchers will develop and exploit mesoscopic, and multiscale computational models to assist medical applications of ultrasound-guided drug and gene delivery and imaging.

The project focus are the encapsulated microbubbles and gas vesicles with submicron size that are used as ultrasound contrast agents and can also act as drug carriers. The project will also address the interaction of functionalized vesicles, bubbes and biomolecular aggregate with interfaces under different types of external forcings and actuation.

The successful candidates will develop new mesoscopic models of ultrasound contrast agents to accurately model their rheological and acoustic behavior that critically affects the technology of ultrasound-guided drug and gene delivery. Interactions of ultrasound and agents at a submicron level will be included by harnessing high-performance computing (HPC) and employing novel multiscale methods that enable seamless propagation of ultrasound from the macro to microscopic level. The proposed framework will be integrated with experimental efforts to advance ultrasound-guided drug and gene delivery across biomedical applications.

The successful applicants will have access to top supercomputing facilities and will benefit from the vivid and rich scientific environment in the campus of University of Barcelona. They will join a group of top computational.

scientists at UBICS (http://ubics.ub.edu/people_post.php?id=37) and also strongly interact with members of the Laboratory for Molecular Modeling at the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana, Slovenia where the other part of MULTraSonicA is carried out.
