Offer description
We are seeking an outstanding postdoctoral researcher in bacteriology with strong expertise in molecular biology to join an interdisciplinary project at the crossroads of natural sciences and humanities. The project aims to decipher the molecular mechanisms that allow the plague bacillus (Yersinia pestis) to establish infection in its flea vector.

The position is offered as a 2-year contract, with the possibility of an 8-month extension (funding already secured). The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to prepare an application for permanent researcher positions at CNRS or Inserm. The position is available October 1st.

The postdoctoral fellow will work independently under the supervision of the head of the laboratory, with full access to unique experimental facilities.

Skills/Qualifications
• PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, or related field
• Strong experience in bacteriology and molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis
• Previous experience with insect models and host-pathogen interactions is an asset
• Experience in genetic manipulation of bacteria, infection models, and molecular analyses
• Proven track record with publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Ability to design, implement, and drive a full research project
• Autonomy, initiative, teamwork, and communication skills
• Ability to supervise students and contribute to collective projects
• Scientific writing skills and ability to interact in English with international collaborators

Education level
PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, or related disciplines

Research profile
First stage researcher (R1) to recognized researcher (R2)

Working environment
The team, based at Institut Pasteur de Lille, includes 15 members (4 researchers, 3 engineers, 1 technician, 5 postdocs, and 2 PhD students). Since its creation in 2010, the lab has developed unique expertise and dedicated facilities to study the complete life cycle of Y. pestis, involving both insect and mammalian hosts. It is the only laboratory in Europe with this capacity.

The Institut Pasteur de Lille hosts 8 units and 34 research teams, offering a wide range of complementary expertise. Lille is a vibrant city with a strong academic community, ideally located at the crossroads of Europe (1 hour from Paris, 30 minutes from Brussels, less than 2 hours from London).
