The Faculty of Medicine at Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) has successfully established itself as an innovative location for medical teaching and research in recent years. The University Clinic for Ophthalmology and Optometry is looking for a dedicated university assistant with a doctorate/PhD, limited to 6 years, or a university assistant with a diploma/master's degree, limited to 4 years, for the following varied and exciting field of work:

Job Duties:

• Development of an independent research profile
• Independent supervision of research projects at the university hospital, including planning, methodological implementation, documentation, analysis, and interpretation of experimental approaches
• Compilation, analysis, interpretation, and publication of collected data in scientific journals and at conferences
• Contributing to scientific publications and reports
• Maintaining research networks within and outside JKU
• Participating in teaching activities
• Supervising bachelor's and master's students and doctoral candidates
• Assisting with laboratory organization and maintenance
• Participating in infrastructural and organizational tasks

Your Qualifications:

• The successful candidate must hold a completed diploma/master's degree or doctorate/PhD in medicine, natural sciences, or a related field
• Experience in the fields of ophthalmology, stem cells, molecular and cell biology, retinal and neurodegenerative diseases is highly desirable
• Knowledge of common molecular biology methods; expression, purification, and characterization of DNA, RNA, and proteins (Western blot, histology, qRT-PCR), cell culture (primary and stem cell lines, 3D models), immunoassays, flow cytometry, electrophysiology
• Previous experience with the culture and differentiation of stem cells and retinal organoids is required
• Experience in neuroscience is an advantage
• Experience in scientific writing is desirable
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask
• Team spirit, loyalty, and service orientation
• Independent, well-structured way of working
• Willingness to further develop new methods
• Very good English and German skills (level B2+)

What We Offer:

• On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum salary in accordance with the collective agreement is € 3,714.80 gross per month as a Graduate Teaching Assistant holding a Diploma/Master’s degree and € 4,932.90 gross per month as a University Assistant holding a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
