“The role of RNA Polymerase II (RNAPII) transcription elongation control and RNA processing in health and disease”

The research group is based at the Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology, in the lively and international city of Krakow, Poland. The aim of our research is to describe the mechanisms regulating gene expression during embryonic development. The postdoctoral researcher will apply advanced genome editing techniques and various multi-omics approaches in a model based on pluripotent stem cells to investigate the mechanisms controlling RNAPII elongation rate and the consequences of transcriptional kinetics disturbances in embryonic development.

Skills/Qualifications

The selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:

1.holding at least a doctoral degree;

1. having relevant scientific achievements;

3.taking active part in scientific life.

Specific Requirements

1. practical experience in analyzing data obtained through second- and third-generation sequencing methods, documented via publications and/or a GitHub profile;

2. knowledge and experience in statistical data analysis methods;

3. experience working with computing clusters and in a Linux environment;

4. proficiency in Python or R;

5. knowledge of gene expression regulation;

6. a doctoral degree in a field related to the project (e.g., genomics, systems biology, molecular biology);

7. at least one scientific publication in a peer-reviewed journal as first author (if the lack of publication is due to a lengthy review process or a patent application, please include this information in your application);

8. motivation, independence, and willingness to grow professionally;

9. ability to collaborate and foster a trusting team environment;

10. ability to teach students experimental techniques and scientific methodology;

11. strong skills in presenting research results;

12. fluent English, both spoken and written;

13. familiarity with Nextflow or Snakemake will be an additional asset;

14. experience in machine learning will be an additional asset.
