Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the frame of the project OCEAN CITIZEN. In order to contribute towards the recovery of marine benthic habitats, the project Marine forest coastal restoration: an underwater gardening socio-ecological plan aims at develop best protocols for the active ecological restoration of marine animal forests. Most representative gorgonian species in the study area (Tarragona) will be transplanted and their role in the development of associated community evaluated through periodic monitoring.


The successful candidate will: (1) participate in the monitoring at sea to acquire video and picture of the transplanted sites, (2) quantitatively analyse video to define species and functional diversity, species abundances and population size structures, (3) quantitatively analyse pictures to assess gorgonian survival and growth after transplantation, (4) quantitatively analyse zooplankton samples, (5) quantitatively analyse trophic functioning of the transplanted sites, (6) statistically analyse data obtained, (7) write reports and scientific research articles, and (8) present results in project’ meetings as well as in national and international conferences.


Gross salary per year: 35.000 €.

Skills/Qualifications

  • • A completed PhD in Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Biology, Marine Sciences, or equivalent.
  • • Strong background in community ecology, benthic ecology, trophic ecology.
  • • Capacity to conduct fieldwork at sea.
  • • Proved experience in quantitative video analysis.
  • • Proved experience in writing scientific manuscripts and a track record of publications in high-impact international journals.

Specific Requirements

  • • Demonstrated experience in the use of statistical packages in R.
  • • Demonstrated experience in the use of geographical information systems.
  • • Demonstrated experience in the use of software for video analysis.
