- work environment: The researcher will be part of the team « theories of fundamental interactions » at the Charles Coulomb Laboratory (UMR5221) and will collaborate with Didier Felbacq and Emmanuel Rousseau. The team develops theoretical models to describe light-matter interactions in complex geometries, where the quantum properties of optical systems are derived from fundamental principles of quantum electrodynamics. The recruited researcher will play a key role in the "Quantum Reservoir Computing for Efficient Signal Processing" project, funded under the HORIZON-EIC-2023-PATHFINDEROPEN-01 call for projects. This project is part of an international consortium involving teams of both theorists and experimentalists.

- main mission: The work is theoretical and numerical, beginning with the development of a model describing the dynamics of quantum bits in a cavity. The spectral window for this project is in the visible range, and the quantum bits under consideration will be luminescent centers in SiC. The recruited researcher will be responsible for developing numerical codes to be shared with consortium members. Additionally, the researcher will be expected to write articles related to their work and may also contribute to patent writing.

- activities: The recruited researcher will be responsible for developing theoretical and numerical calculations in quantum physics with the following objectives:

Propose the most suitable devices for implementing quantum reservoir computing;

Identify relevant tasks that a quantum reservoir computing system could solve;

Accurately and precisely model the experimental devices studied within the project framework;

Provide theoretical support to meet the experimental needs of the project.

Skills/Qualifications

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in quantum physics.

A strong background in modeling solid-state quantum systems and quantum optics is essential. The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of fundamental quantum electrodynamics, with an emphasis on applications involving waveguides with cavities, quantum circuits including Josephson junctions, and effective atomic systems with multi-level quantum states. Specifically, they should be able to perform explicit calculations of transmission and reflection in the microwave and optical regimes.

The candidate must have substantial experience with mathematical tools such as quantum operator algebras, unitary and conformal transformations, Green's functions, stochastic processes, and master equations. Proficiency in basic concepts of information theory and quantum computing is also required. Knowledge of machine learning techniques would be a strong asset but is not mandatory.

The candidate should be accustomed to working with experimental groups and possess excellent written and spoken English. We expect applicants to have strong interpersonal skills, thrive in a diverse and multidisciplinary environment, and be capable of presenting their work at international conferences
