The project is funded by NCN under the SONATA-BIS 13 program, project titled: “Tests of the Standard Model predictions with rare light meson decays and the HADES@GSI spectrometer”
The main goal of the project is to study fundamental symmetries and interactions in nature, with a particular focus on CP symmetry violation and the search for effects beyond the Standard Model. The project involves the analysis of proton-proton collision data at 4.5 GeV collected using the HADES experiment, located at the GSI facility. These studies will enable testing of CP symmetry in rare meson decays, such as η(′) → e⁺e⁻π⁺π⁻, and the search for new effects, including the X(17) boson, hypothesized by the chiral resonance theory.
The project also aims to investigate the electromagnetic structure of mesons through the analysis of Dalitz decays (e.g., η(′) → e⁺e⁻γ) to test the vector dominance model (VDM). Another key aspect is understanding the mechanism of particle mass generation by studying ρ−a₁ meson mixing and the chiral mass restoration in hot and dense matter. These findings will be essential for preparing future experiments, such as CBM at the upcoming FAIR facility in Darmstadt, which continues the HADES research program.
Thanks to the high-precision data collected by the HADES spectrometer—the only system in the world capable of dilepton detection in collisions at √s = 1–4 GeV—it will be possible to gain deeper insight into fundamental processes, test the predictions of the Standard Model, and understand the mechanisms that led to the formation of the observed Universe.
The described research is conducted in close collaboration with scientists from Germany (GSI and Jülich research centers) and Sweden (Uppsala University).
Skills/Qualifications
The selection procedure is open for all individuals, who meet the requirements set out in Articles 113 and 116.2.3) of the Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science, and who meet the following eligibility criteria according to § 165 of the Statute of the Jagiellonian University:
- - holding at least a doctoral degree;
- - having relevant scientific achievements;
- - taking active part in scientific life.
Specific Requirements
- Meet the NCN requirements for individuals employed in research projects in this position, in accordance with the criteria specified in the document: https://www.ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/pliki/uchwaly-rady/2023/uchwala50_2023-zal1.pdf#page=53
-
- Experience in experiments in the field of nuclear or particle physics at high or medium energy.
-
- Very good knowledge and programming skills in C/C++ (or possibly Python).
-
- Good knowledge of CERN-ROOT data analysis packages.

The candidate will also be directly involved in future measurements and the preparation of experimental proposals using the HADES detector.
Summary of responsibilities:
- Analysis of experimental data on rare decays of eta, omega, and eta-prime mesons.
-
- Leading and conducting Monte Carlo simulations of the investigated physical processes in the context of analyzed experimental data and planned future measurements.
-
- Participation in internal HADES group meetings and international conferences to present project results.
-
- Collaboration with the project leader and other team members, including supervising the work of PhD students and HADES collaboration participants.
- - stable employment based on an employment contract at the renowned university,
