A tender is open for the attribution of 1 Research Scholarship within the scope of the R&D “High-entropybased filler materials for metallic alloys that are difficult to weld.” related to operation 015457 with reference 2023.17348.ICDT, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P. /MCTES through national funds under the following conditions:

Work Plan: The work plan to develop includes the following tasks:

1. 1. Develop new filler materials based on high-entropy alloys for fusion welding processes.
2. 2. Weld different combinations of metals using high-entropy alloys.
3. 3. Characterize the welded joints microstructurally and mechanically.
4. 4. Report the work in scientific articles.

Workplace: The work will be carried out in the CENIMAT|i3N laboratories of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa under the scientific supervision of Dr. João Pedro Oliveira, with the contracting entity being NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT.

Fellowship duration: The fellowship will last for 12 months, scheduled to begin in January 2025, possibly renewable within the duration of the project.

Application deadline and form of application submission: The competition is open from 11th to 24 th December 2025.

• • Documentation to be provided in the application: Applications must be formalized, mandatorily, by sending the following documents: i. Motivation letter; ii. Detailed Curriculum Vitae; iii. Documents attesting the academic degrees obtained and the respective final grades* (at the application stage, these may be replaced by a declaration of honor, as stated in point no. 2);

  - Note 1: For academic degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, it is mandatory to present proof of recognition of the academic degree and the conversion of the final classification to the Portuguese grading scale (process regulated by Decree-Law no. 341/2007 of October 12), or alternatively, to obtain equivalence/recognition of the academic degrees (process regulated by DecreeLaw no. 283/83 of June 21).

  - Note 2: In the case of candidates enrolled in a non-degree course, the scholarship may have a maximum duration of one year.

• • Documentation to be provided in terms of contractualization: Proof of academic degrees or their recognition/equivalence when awarded by foreign higher education institutions; proof of enrollment in a PhD program or in a non-degree course integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution.

Mandatory Requirements

• • Candidates must:
• • hold a doctoral degree obtained within three years prior to the date of submission of the application.
• • Priority will be given to candidates from the field of Mechanical and Materials Engineering and to those with research experience in the specific scientific area of the work plan.
• • Doctor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering or related fields. Proof of this status must be presented no later than the fellowship contracting phase and may, prior to that, be replaced by a declaration of honor.
• • not exceeded, with the conclusion of this contract, an accumulated period of 3 years, consecutive or interpolated, as a post-doctoral research fellow in the scientific and technological system and carry out the research work of this fellowship in a host
• • be informed that the BIPD are restricted in time in order to stimulate scientific employment and the use of researcher contracts as a rule for hiring them, as well as to promote the development, in the entities of the national science and technology system
• • present the documents proving this situation at the latest by the time the fellowship is contracted, before which time they may be replaced by a declaration of honour, which is attached.

Preferred Factors

• • Experience in high entropy alloys; welding of these materials; characterization of metallic alloys.
• • The candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team, write reports and scientific publications, and be fluent in English.
