We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the QIC4ESR project (Quantum Interface Controller for Electron Spin Resonance), a collaborative ANR-DFG funded initiative between IM2NP (France) and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany).

The project aims to revolutionize ESR spectroscopy by developing a cost-effective, flexible, and high-performance spectrometer based on FPGA/RFSoC technology. By replacing expensive commercial hardware with a software-defined digital architecture, QIC4ESR will democratize access to advanced ESR techniques and make the system openly available to the scientific community.

The successful candidate will lead the development, implementation, and benchmarking of the QIC4ESR bridge, working at the interface between advanced spectroscopy and state of the art instrumentation.


Research Topic : While such a bridge will be used in many domains related to ESR, we plan to focus on quantum information using electron spins. This includes implementing advanced pulse sequences such as T1/T2 relaxation measurements and electron-nuclear interaction sequences. A key aspect of the work involves demonstrating innovative capabilities of the platform, including shaped pulses for broadband excitation and artifact reduction, multi-harmonic detection for enhanced sensitivity, and multi-frequency operation. The postdoc will also characterize atomic spin clock transitions in molecular magnets and lanthanide complexes, and benchmark the system performance against commercial EPR spectrometers.


Available Facilities : The IM2NP laboratory provides state-of-the-art facilities for this research : RF Instrumentation Platform (IOLab), Magnetic Resonance Platform, along with an extensive microwave component library. Cryogenic measurements are performed using cryogen-free cryostats covering the 2–300 K temperature range. The project will utilize FPGA RFSoC development boards for real-time digital signal processing. Additionally, through our participation in the national infrastructure INFRANALYTICS (FR2054), we provide access to cutting-edge commercial spectrometers for comprehensive benchmarking studies.


Collaboration and Networking Opportunities : This position offers extensive opportunities for international collaboration and professional development. The postdoc will work closely with our German partners at the KIT Institute for Data Processing and Electronics, with regular exchanges and missions to Karlsruhe for firmware development and hardware integration. The position provides integration within the European Federation of EPR Groups (EFEPR) and the French national EPR community, offering access to a vibrant network of researchers working at the forefront of magnetic resonance spectroscopy.


Required Skills : Experience in spectroscopy (EPR and/or NMR) and RF measurement is a must. Previous instrumentation development is an asset. Programming skill is a plus. Excellent English communication skills, are required for international collaboration.


Salary : Depends on experience. Start at 2100€ net (after taxes) + benefits (health insurance, retirement plan)
