Position Summary

Applications are invited for the role of Post-Doctoral Researcher exploring the human and societal aspects of climate change and the just transition.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and self-motivated individual to contribute to the CLIMATUDE project funded by the Environmental Protection Agency. The project is working to develop an in-depth understanding of Irish people’s attitudes, beliefs and values related to climate change. The project is led by Dr Niall Dunphy and Dr Breffní Lennon. CLIMATUDE will map the knowledge and perceptions of Irish people relating to climate change and its societal implications. It will develop an in-depth understanding of how people’s attitudes to climate change are shaped by their sources of information, social networks and wider public discourse. It will explore how their beliefs and values are influenced by their socio-demographic attributes, especially gender, life-stage, socio-economic privilege, and educational attainment.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in environmental media studies or cognate discipline. They will have strong qualitative analytical skills and be equipped to analyse how media shapes understanding, perception, and action regarding the climate polycrisis. Candidates should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively with other team members. Furthermore, they should have fluent English and excellent writing, project management, communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.

Achievement of the expected progression within Post Doc and Senior Post Doc is transferable between the Irish HEI’s. This can be reflected in the starting pay of a PD researcher. Similarly, as the PD scheme is an intergenerational training scheme completion of PD1 or PD 2 levels in one HEI will normally render that researcher ineligible for appointment at a similar level in another Irish HEIResearcher Career Development Framework | Irish Universities Association
