Job description: West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering offers a part-time position of Assistant Professor in the field of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Chemical Synthesis and Catalysis, Instrumental analysis.


Assistant Professor in the group of research and teaching staff, prepared for active involvement in both scientific and educational activities.


Scientific tasks will be carried out in line with the research topics and profile of the Department, while teaching duties will be performed within full-time academic-profile study programmes.


The selected candidate will be offered opportunities for professional development, participation in educational and research projects, as well as international collaboration.


The scope of duties and responsibilities will be defined in accordance with the Work Regulations of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin.

The applicant should have PhD degree in the field of engineering or technical sciences in the discipline of material engineering, chemical engineering or a related discipline, or in the field of natural sciences in the discipline of chemical sciences or a related discipline. Other mandatory qualification requirements:

  • • Required education: A doctoral degree (PhD) in technical or engineering and technical sciences in the discipline of materials engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field; or a doctoral degree in chemical sciences or natural and exact sciences in the discipline of chemical sciences or a related field.
  • • Authorship or co-authorship of at least 10 scientific articles, published within the last 5 years in journals from the official list (each worth a minimum of 140 points according to the MEiN/MNiSW journal ranking, based on the year of publication).
  • • Documented scientific achievements with a cumulative Hirsch index (h-index) of no less than 6.
  • • Documented participation in research projects conducted within the framework of scientific grants.
  • • Documented experience in teaching or co-teaching classes for students in technical fields.
  • • Proficient command of the Polish language, both spoken and written.
  • • Knowledge of English at a minimum B2 level.

Desired qualification requirements:

  • • Proficient knowledge of at least six of the following instrumental methods: Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), diffuse reflectance infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT), UV-Vis spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance UV-Vis spectroscopy (UV-Vis/DRS), gas chromatography (GC, GC-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), high-performance liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry (HPLC-HRMS) thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), elemental analysis, total organic carbon (TOC) analysis, polarimetry; contact angle analysis, surface and interfacial tension measurements.
  • • Familiarity with the research areas conducted at the Department of Organic Chemical Technology and Polymer Materials.
  • • Scientific experience in line with the research topics pursued by the Faculty and Department, confirmed by publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • • Documented experience in teamwork, including participation in international research teams.
  • • Familiarity with selected software packages, including MS Office, OriginPro, ChemDraw, MestreNova, Proteus TG, Compound Discoverer, TraceFinder.
  • • Documented collaboration with industry partners.
  • Documented training and practical expertise in the instrumental methods listed in point 1.
