The Structure and Mechanics of Advanced Materials Group at PSI, part of the Center for Photon Science, develops methods and quantitative approaches to investigate nano- and microstructural features across soft matter, biological tissues, as well as metals and alloys. Our work combines X-ray and neutron scattering, diffraction, and imaging, in close collaboration with beamline teams at SLS and SINQ. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with the Coherent X-ray Scattering Group (CXS) at the cSAXS beamline at SLS. For this, we are looking for a

Postdoctoral Fellow in X-ray imaging and scattering

Your tasks

• • Investigate mineralized biological tissue (such as bone) with small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) tensor tomography
• • Develop correlative multi-scale analysis pipelines integrating SAXS tensor tomography and high-resolution X-ray tomography, and complementary electron microscopy data (in collaboration with microscopy experts)
• • Plan, perform, and analyze experiments at the cSAXS beamline and contribute to improvements in experimental control and automation
• • Participate in user support at the cSAXS beamline
• • Publish results in scientific journals and present findings at international conferences

Skills/Qualifications

Your profile

• • PhD degree in physics or similar natural science discipline, signal/image processing, or engineering
• • Interest in interdisciplinary research at the interface of biology, computational tools, and X-ray methods
• • Experience with experiments at large-scale user facilities (e.g., synchrotrons or neutron sources) and scientific programming in Python are considered assets
• • Motivation to work hands-on at the beamline and contribute to user support activities
