Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position on methodology to obtain accurate ages of stellar populations across the Hubble time.

The position is for 1 year at ICCUB Barcelona with L. Verde as part of the RedH0T project. 

The successful candidate will work on developing foundational models from Machine Learning to accurately analyze both resolved and integrated stellar systems with the aim of obtaining accurate stellar ages.

A background in cosmology. The candidate must have a very strong and demonstrated background in producing large scale codes for analyzing stellar systems with the aim of obtaining their physical parameters (age, metallicity, helium abundance, distance, dust content etc…).  Previous deep experience in machine learning and foundational models is a must. Skills in machine learning, inverse problems and  data reduction is also required.

L. Verde is leading and has pioneered the development of advanced Bayesian machine learning methods to compute accurate stellar ages.

Gross salary per year: €49.999,92

The application period is from  10 to 23 June 2026.


Skills/Qualifications

  • • The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in analyzing resolved and unresolved stellar populations across cosmic time
  • • The ideal candidate should be familiar with  Machine Learning
  • • Strong knowledge of LLM and multi-agentic Systems is required.
  • • Being at ease with writing high-quality papers will be a major plus. 
  • • Interest in addessing the Hubble tension will be a plus.
