Institute for Production Management
40 hours/week (Assistant Professor, non-tenure track) or 30 hours/week (Research and Teaching Associate)

The Professorship in Business Administration and Information Systems with an emphasis on the interface between Operations Management and Digital Transformation, held by Prof. Schmidt, at the WU Department of Information Systems and Operations Management is looking to hire:
1x Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent*in post doc non-tenure track) and 1x Research and Teaching Associate (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc) or alternatively
3x Research and Teaching Associates (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc)
The positions involve research on the role of emerging digital technologies in operations and supply chain management and teaching in the MSc program Supply Chain Management and the Bachelor’s Programs in Business, Economics and Social Sciences as well as Business & Economics. The Chair is firmly embedded in the international Operations and Supply Chain scholarly community, and the position aims at helping junior researchers to start a successful academic career.
What to expect
In general, research focuses on the role of emerging digital technologies in operations and supply chain management and could, for example, examine digital technologies and concepts such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, and additive manufacturing, as well as the organizational and societal implications of technology adoption and use. Exemplary research topics might relate to data security and privacy, global supply chain risk management, digital transformation, public policy, and digital business models and more.
For Research and Teaching Associate (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc)positions:
The successful candidate will pursue the PhD program at the WU Department of Information Systems and Operations Management. Your main duties include research, teaching, and administrative tasks.
- • Building research skills: You will conduct an independent empirical research project at the interface of operations and supply chain management with digital technologies and transformation.
- • Writing a dissertation: Based on this research, you will write a cumulative dissertation. During this process, you will receive very regular and substantive feedback and support from Prof. Schmidt, the first supervisor of your dissertation. You can use a third of your working hours for writing this dissertation.
- • Teaching and Supervision: Expect to help planning and creating courses, supporting teaching activities at WU.
- • Organizational and administrative support: You will support general tasks, especially related to the set-up of both the team as well as research and teaching activities.
For Assistant Professor(Universitätsassistent*in post doc non-tenure track)position:
Your main duties include research, teaching, and administrative tasks.
- • Independent Research Work: The successful candidate will be provided with opportunities to build up a solid track-record of publications in top-tier international academic peer-reviewed journals. You will receive very regular and substantive feedback and support from Prof. Schmidt.

- • Teaching and Supervision: Expect to help planning and creating courses, supporting teaching activities at WU.
- • Organizational and administrative support: You will support general tasks, especially related to the set-up of both the team as well as research and teaching activities.
What you have to offer
For Research and Teaching Associate (Universitätsassistent*in prae doc) positions:
We are looking for a highly motivated applicant(s) with strong analytical skills with an interest in carrying out scientific research projects. To qualify you should have:
- • Academic degree: A Diploma/Master’s degree in Business Administration (preferably with a specialization in Operations and Supply Chain Management), Information Systems or a related discipline, with excellent grades that qualifies you for enrollment in a doctoral program at WU.
- • Interest in topics related to emerging digital technologies and their implications for organizations, operations, and supply chains.
- • Research Skills: Interest in working with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods. Prior data analytics, statistical analysis, or programming skills can be useful, but not required.
- • Language Skills: Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Candidates will also be expected to teach courses in German in the Bachelor’s degree program after one year.
- • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
- • Working Style: Good interpersonal skills and ability to work individually and with a team, organizational qualities and excellent communication skills.
For Assistant Professor (Universitätsassistent*in post doc non-tenure track) position:
You have a doctorate or PhD degree in a relevant area with a focus on empirical research (qualitative and/or quantitative). You should demonstrate the ability to conduct high-quality, creative research at the interface of Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Emerging Technologies, and Digital Transformation and publish your work in high-ranked international journals. To qualify you should have:
- • Academic degree: Completed doctoral degree (PhD) in Business Administration, Information Systems, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.
- • An expertise in the above-mentioned field proven by the ability (or the potential) to publish in top-tier international academic peer-reviewed journals.
- • Research Skills: Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methods.
- • Teaching and Supervision: A proven interest and ability in developing courses and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level and in mentoring students.
- • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
- • Language Skills: Excellent command of English, both written and spoken. Non-German-speaking candidates will be expected to acquire proficiency in German over a certain period of time.
- • Working Style: Good interpersonal skills and ability to work individually and with a team, organizational qualities and excellent communication skills.
- • Potential to generate external funding for research projects.

In addition, applicants should provide a short description of one to three potential research projects written in the style of a paper abstract (maximum one paragraph each); postdoctoral applicants should additionally submit one representative research paper (published or working paper).

The minimum monthly gross salary for an Assistant Professor, non-tenure track amounts to €5,014.30 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
