Job Duties:

  • • Independent research activities in the fields of methodology and empirical methods
  • • Writing a habilitation thesis in the field of sociology
  • • Further development and implementation of independent research projects in the field of quantitative social research and methodology development
  • • Contributing to the integration of quantitative, qualitative, and interpretive research approaches, especially in the use of AI
  • • Taking on teaching duties at the institute, particularly in the field of quantitative methods of empirical social research
  • • Participation in the development of innovative teaching formats in the field of quantitative methods and mixed-methods approaches
  • • Examination of methodological developments through artificial intelligence in the application and teaching of methods in the social sciences
  • • Participation in the institute's administrative tasks, particularly in the areas of committee work, study organization and knowledge transfer
  • • Participation in the acquisition and implementation of third-party funded projects

Your Qualifications:

  • • The successful candidate must hold a completed doctoral/PhD degree in sociology or a related social science discipline
  • • Excellent knowledge of quantitative methods in empirical social research
  • • Solid expertise in applying statistical analysis methods and experience working with social science datasets. Additional experience in modern statistical methods, statistical and machine learning, and AI is advantageous
  • • Excellent knowledge of SPSS; knowledge of STATA and/or R and/or Python is an advantage.
  • • Interest in mixed-methods approaches and in combining quantitative, qualitative, and interpretive research approaches
  • • Interest in methodological developments through artificial intelligence and their application in research and teaching
  • • Ability to independently plan, conduct and publish scientific research projects
  • • Experience in university teaching, particularly in the field of quantitative methods of empirical social research
  • • Didactic competence and commitment to the further development of innovative university teaching
  • • Experience in acquiring third-party funding and/or participating in research projects is advantageous
  • • Ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary and cooperative research contexts
  • • Excellent German and English skills, both spoken and written (Level C1)
