**Competition for the position of POST-DOC in a research project

at the Department of Biopharmacy, Chair of Chemistry, Medical University

of Lublin (M/F)**

The Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Medical University of Lublin announces a competition for the position of POST-DOC in the research staff group, full-time, at the Department of Biopharmacy, Chair of Chemistry, Medical University of Lublin (M/F), to carry out research tasks for the National Science Centre project OPUS 29 entitled: "Discovery and development of drugs against SLC35F transport proteins associated with human diseases" (Contract no.: UMO-2025/57/B/NZ1/02424).

Project description:https://www.ncn.gov.pl/sites/default/files/listy-rankingowe/2025-03-17-mmatyB0da2/streszczenia/647603-pl.pdf

Principal Investigator: dr hab. Sven Stefan, university professor

Description of tasks:

1. Applying existing and developing new protocols to optimize cell cultures and in vitro cellular assays.

2. Transfection of human transport proteins in model cell systems (e.g., HEK cells), including immunohistochemical verification of protein expression (e.g., Western blot) and mRNA (e.g., RT-qPCR).

3. Visualization of transfected transport proteins using dyes and antibodies (potentially genetic engineering for in vitro mutagenesis), BRET/FRET analysis, and CRISPR/Cas9 gene silencing using cells with native transport protein expression.

4. Application of instrumental techniques (e.g., LC-MS/MS, fluorimetry, flow cytometry, colorimetry, UV/VIS spectroscopy, and confocal microscopy) for the functional characterization of transfected transport proteins and the creation of a screening platform for active compounds.

5. Acquiring, collecting, processing, and storing data, including the use of statistical methods in compliance with FAIR principles and the data management plan.

6. Mediating between team members, supervising students, and communicating research results internally and externally at national and international conferences.

Competition requirements:

  • •   Holding a doctoral degree (PhD):
  • •   In the field of pharmaceutical, chemical, biological, biotechnological sciences, medical biology, or related fields at the time of signing the employment contract, obtained in the year of employment in the project or within 12 years before January 1st of the year of employment in the project. For individuals who have obtained more than one doctoral degree, the reference date is the date of the first one. This period may be extended by the duration of documented long-term (over 90 days) sick leave or rehabilitation benefits due to incapacity for work during this period. Additionally, this period can be extended by the number of months spent on childcare leave granted under the terms of the Labor Code, and in the case of women intending to enter the competition – by 18 months for each born or adopted child, if this method of indicating career breaks is more favorable.
  • •   Obtained from an entity other than the entity where employment in this position is planned, or the candidate has completed at least a 10-month continuous and documented postdoctoral fellowship in an entity other than the project-executing entity and in a country other than the country of obtaining the doctoral degree.
  • •   Practical and theoretical experience and knowledge in molecular biology and laboratory techniques (e.g., transfection, Western blot, RT-qPCR) are required, including the scope of regulatory aspects regarding laboratories with specified biosafety levels.
  • •   Expected knowledge of cell culture techniques and functional assays (e.g., LC-MS/MS, fluorimetry, colorimetry, BRET/FRET).
  • •   Experience in interdisciplinary projects in medicinal chemistry, including practical experience in instrumental analysis (e.g., 1H NMR, 13C NMR, LC-MS, FTIR) and structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies, is welcome.
  • •   Experience in computational processes (e.g., molecular docking, MD simulations, chemical similarity searching, pharmacophore modeling, virtual screening of chemical space) and statistical analysis is welcome.
  • •   Candidates with additional experience in AI/ML models and programming skills (e.g., Python, R) will be prioritized.
  • •   Experience in publishing high-quality articles in reputable journals is expected.
  • •   Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Employment conditions:

  • •   Full-time employment contract for a period of 36 months.
  • •   Planned start date: September 2026.
  • •   Remuneration: 11,666 PLN gross-gross per month (this amount includes employer and employee costs, which will be deducted; additionally, this amount includes the annual bonus, the so-called "13th salary," paid once a year in accordance with legal regulations).

Remuneration for a full-time post-doc position in a project funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) may be awarded to a person who:

  • •   Obtained a doctoral degree from an entity other than the entity where employment in this position is planned, or completed at least a 10-month continuous and documented postdoctoral fellowship in an entity other than the project-executing entity and in a country other than the country of obtaining the doctoral degree;
  • •   Will be employed for a period of no less than 6 months;
  • •   During the period of receiving this remuneration, will not receive any other remuneration from funds awarded under direct costs of research projects funded within NCN competitions;
  • •   During the period of receiving this remuneration, will not receive remuneration from another employer based on an employment contract, including an employer based outside the territory of Poland;
  • •   During the period of receiving this remuneration, will not receive pension benefits from the social security system.

Other information referred to in Article 18 (3ca) of the Labor Code, including the amount of other work-related benefits granted to employees in monetary or non-monetary form, as well as relevant provisions of the remuneration regulations, will be provided by the employer before establishing the employment relationship.
