A call is open for the award of one Research Grant within the scope of the project “OUROMOVE - Ubiquitous and Robust Optimization for Fleet Operations and Rostering”, with nr. 17403 and operation code at the Funds Platform (Balcão dos Fundos) NORTE2030-FEDER-01192300, co-financed by the European Union through the NORTE 2030 Regional Program, of Portugal 2030, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Engineering and Data Science

Admission requirements: Applicants eligible for this call must cumulatively meet the following two requirements:

Requirement 1:

• • Be enrolled in a PhD program in the area of Informatics Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management, or Transport Systems, to be duly proven at the time of contracting;or
• • Hold a degree and be enrolled in a non-degree course integrated into the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or more R&D units, to be duly proven at the time of contracting.

Note: In the case of master's degree holders enrolled in non-degree courses, the grant may only be awarded to those who, with the signing of the grant contract in question, including possible renewals, do not exceed a cumulative period of two years in this type of grant, whether consecutive or interpolated.

Requirement 2:

• • Hold a Master’s degree in Informatics Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering and Management, or a related field.

Note: If the qualification was awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all formalities established therein must be completed by the time of contracting.

Work plan:

(i) Support the design, development, and validation of methodological and computational solutions for planning, network modeling, and resource scheduling, considering different usage perspectives and performance criteria;
(ii) Contribute to the development and implementation of the different solution modules, namely planning, network, and scheduling modules, ensuring their functional coherence and performance;
(iii) Participate in the integration of the various solution components, as well as in preliminary testing and validation in controlled and/or real environments;
(iv) Participate in the documentation, dissemination, and communication of project results, including the preparation of technical reports, scientific publications, and other communication activities.

Applicable legislation and regulations: Law No. 40/2004 of August 18, in its current version (Statute of Scientific Research Grant Holders), the Research Grant Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology currently in force and the Research Grant Regulations of the University of Porto currently in force.

Workplace: The work will be carried out at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, under the scientific supervision of Professor Marta Campos Ferreira and Professor Teresa Galvão Dias.

Grant duration and activity regime: The grant will last for 6 months, with an expected start in July 2026, under an exclusive dedication regime, possibly renewable, but not exceeding the end of the project.

If it is not possible to ensure the 6-month duration mentioned above, the duration will be adjusted according to the project’s end date, provided that a minimum duration of 3 consecutive months is guaranteed, as stipulated in paragraph 3 of article 6 of the FCT Research Grant Regulations.

Any renewal of the grant will be carried out in accordance with article 6 of the FCT Research Grant Regulations.

Monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly grant amount is €1,359.64, according to the table of grant values defined by FCT, I.P.  Payment will be made by bank transfer.

Selection procedure: A curriculum evaluation (60%) will be conducted, focusing on the candidate’s merit, considering the following factors:
a) Academic background (Master’s in Informatics Engineering, Data Science, Software Engineering or Industrial Engineering and Management – 10 points; other Master’s degrees – 2 points);
b) Publications in Intelligent Transport Systems and Mobility – 5 points; publications in other areas – 2 points;
c) Research experience in the project’s area – 5 points; in related areas – 2 points; outside the project’s area – 1 point.

Candidates will be rated on a scale from 1 to 20 points. Candidates scoring below 13 points in the curriculum evaluation will not be admitted to the interview (40%). The interview will address topics related to the work plan, as well as the candidate’s experience and CV.

If none of the candidates achieves a minimum final score of 12 points, the scholarship will not be awarded.

Form of publication/notification of results: Evaluation results will be communicated by email to the address provided in the application.

Application deadline and submission method: The call is open from 02-07-2026 to 15-07-2026 (until 23:59 local time).
