Work assignments

• • Designing and conducting one behavioral and one EEG experiment on tonal language perception and learning under the project “Native Language Background and the Brain’s Perception and Learning of a Foreign Language”. More specifically, we will examine how Estonian native speakers and English native speakers learn Chinese lexical tones. Note that the project does not approach language learning from a pedagogical perspective.
• • Participating in managing and implementing the research project under the supervision of the project’s principal investigator.
• • Teaching activities in the field of psycholinguistics. 
• • Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills. 
• • Supervising BSc, MSc, and PhD students. 
• • Participation in activities related to the promotion and implementation of the research field. 
• • Participation in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies and other similar activities.
• • Participation in other research and development activities under the supervision of a professor or associate professor.

Education

PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Work experience

• • Prior experience with tonal language perception experiments is required.
• • Competence in social science research methods and their application in teaching and research. 
• • Experience in science communication and high-level international publishing in the field of psychology.
• • Experience in conducting or managing research projects. 
• • Knowledge of modern teaching aids, learning environments, teaching methods and their development opportunities. 
• • Ability to organise teaching and teaching at all levels of higher education. 
• • Previous teaching experience at least the first two levels of higher education. 
• • Successful experience in supervising students at higher level.

Personal qualities

• • Good communication skills and good stress tolerance.
• • Ability to work both independently and be part of a team.

Language skills

Excellent command of English in speech and in writing.

Additional information

The fixed-term contract (01.10.2026-31.12.2027) is determined by the duration of the project.
