The HITOC project (Development of a Neurocompetent Multi-Segment Intestinal Organ-on-Chip Based on hiPSCs for Studying Intestinal Infectious Diseases), funded through the French national PEPR MED-OOC program, aims to develop a new generation of intestine-on-chip models integrating multiple intestinal segments together with a functional enteric nervous system (ENS). The objective is to closely reproduce the structural, functional, and electrophysiological complexity of the human gastrointestinal tract in order to investigate intestinal infectious diseases and host–pathogen interactions.
Within this framework, the NCM (Nanobiointerfaces and Conductive Materials) group at IEMN will develop innovative bioelectronic platforms enabling the electrical interfacing and functional monitoring of neurocompetent intestinal tissues through advanced micro- and nanofabrication technologies. The project brings together several leading academic partners, including the Institut Pasteur de Lille, Institut Pasteur de Paris, Université de Nantes, IBDM (Marseille), and IEMN.
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative bioelectronic devices dedicated to the study of neurocompetent intestine-on-chip models. The main responsibilities will include:
Designing and fabricating transparent and flexible microelectrode arrays (MEAs) based on conductive polymers for recording the electrical activity of enteric neuronal networks, as well as for performing cellular impedance sensing (ECIS) and transepithelial electrical resistance (TEER) measurements to assess the integrity and functionality of the epithelial barrier within microfluidic devices;
Developing, implementing, and optimizing cleanroom-based micro- and nanofabrication processes dedicated to the fabrication of these MEAs;
Integrating the developed bioelectronic devices into microfluidic organ-on-chip platforms;
Performing electrical, electrochemical, and physicochemical characterization of the fabricated devices;
Participating in the biological and functional validation of the devices in close collaboration with biologists, electrophysiologists, and other partners of the consortium;
Contributing to the scientific activities of the project, including participation in consortium meetings, preparation of high-impact scientific publications, and presentation of research findings at national and international conferences.
The successful candidate will join the NCM (Nanobiointerfaces and Conductive Materials) group at IEMN, which is internationally recognized for its research in micro- and nanotechnologies, biointerfaces, bioelectronics, and biosensors. The candidate will benefit from access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a next-generation academic cleanroom as well as advanced platforms for physicochemical and bioelectronic characterization.
