Post: Post-Doctoral / Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher (3 Posts)(Fixed term wholetime for 24 Months)(Reference: 308/2026)

Location: The post will be based at one of the TU Dublin Campuses i.e. Aungier Street, Bolton Street, Grangegorman, Blanchardstown or Tallaght. Regular attendance at other sites will be required.

Hours of Work: A 37-hour working week is in operation.

Salary:  It is expected that appointees will commence at point 01 of the relevant pay scale i.e. Post-Doctoral Researcher/Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher Salary Scale i.e. €47,273/€55,399 gross per annum, unless the arrangements set out in Circular Letter 08/2019 apply PMSS---Starting-Pay---Revised-Arrangements.pdf

It is anticipated that interviews for this post will take place in-person in week beginning 24th August 2026. The interview assessment will be 45 minutes in length and will include a presentation of 10 minutes duration. The topic of this presentation will be as follows:

‘My experience in advanced composite materials’

Person Specification

During the recruitment and selection process, applicants will be expected to demonstrate an appropriate mix of knowledge, experience and skills described below. For shortlisting purposes, candidates will be expected to demonstrate the degree to which they meet both the essential and desirable criteria set out below.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities required for the role as outlined below and must satisfy all of the essential criteria:

Essential

1. 1. A PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing, Engineering Design) or related area.
2. 2. Knowledge of experimental research techniques, 3D modelling/CAD, and methodologies within the requisite subject area.
3. 3. Practical, hands-on, experience working with carbon-fibre composite materials in one or more of the following general areas: manufacturing processes, experimental materials testing, surface engineering and / or numerical analysis.
4. 4. Commitment to high quality research and evidence of a research profile and publication record within the requisite subject area. 

Essential Criteria for a Senior Post-doctoral Researcher

1. 1. Successfully completed at least one Post-doctoral Fellowship or equivalent in the public or private Sector.
2. 2. Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to present complex information effectively to a range of audiences. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the appropriate mix of knowledge, experience, skills, talent and abilities.  

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their demonstration of meeting every essential criterion so are asked to clearly outline how their experience and qualifications meet the criteria.

Desirable (Post-Doctoral Researcher & Senior Post-Doctoral Researcher)

1. 1. Direct experience of research techniques and methodologies in one or more of the following specific areas (experience in more than one is highly desirable)- Advanced aerospace composite manufacturing processes (e.g. automated tape layup, automated fibre placement, autoclave, etc.).- Mechanical testing of composite materials (e.g. tensile/compression, fracture, fatigue, impact, environmental, etc.) and failure mode & effect analysis.- Numerical modelling of composite material via finite element method / finite volume method and/or computational fluid dynamics of aerodynamics.- Surface pre-treatments for adhesive bonding of composites, coating development and / or surface engineering as well as relevant experimental techniques (e.g. surface energy, coating adhesion, coating formulation, etc.)
2. 2. Experience with fabrication and prototyping of fibre-reinforced polymer composite components.
3. 3. Experience of working on collaborative projects with industrial partners.
4. 4. Demonstrated understanding of value of academic versus commercial disclosure and awareness of Intellectual Property (IP).
