Scholarship Theme: Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship, within the framework of BioMembrOS (Biomimetic Membranes
for Organ Support)/Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials (CeFEMA), 101130006, financed by
European Funds through HORIZON-EIC-2023-PATHFINDEROPEN-01
Duration: 5 months
Maximum Duration Including Renewals: 10 months

Objectives
• Develop homogeneous and stable polymeric coatings for membranes intended for gas permeation applications.
• Incorporate Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) into coating systems to enhance the gas permeation performance of
membranes.
• Characterize the physicochemical, morphological, thermal, and surface properties of membranes and coated systems,
establishing structure–property–performance relationships.
• Evaluate the influence of coating composition and MOF incorporation on the permeation of oxygen, carbon dioxide, and
nitrogen.
• Validate the application of the developed coatings on advanced membrane architectures, including 3D-printed
structures and hollow fibers.
• Contribute to the dissemination of project results through the preparation of technical reports, project deliverables, and
scientific publications.
Work Plan
• Development and optimization of polymeric membrane coatings based on PDMS, polyurethanes, and thermoplastic
polyurethanes.
• Development of mixed-matrix coating systems through the incorporation of Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and
investigation of the influence of MOF composition and loading on coating performance.
• Physicochemical, thermal, morphological, and surface characterization of membranes, coatings, and membrane–
coating systems using techniques such as SEM, AFM, FTIR, thermal analysis, and contact angle measurements.
• Evaluation of the gas permeation performance (O₂, CO₂, and N₂) of the developed membrane–coating systems,
including the determination of gas permeability and the influence of coating composition and processing parameters.
• Application and validation of the developed coatings on advanced membrane architectures, including 3D-printed
membranes and hollow fibers developed by the project partners.
• Support the IST research team in the preparation of technical reports, project deliverables, scientific publications, andother dissemination and scientific management activities.
