The subject “Ethics and Social Studies” at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Graz makes an indispensable contribution to the multi-layered discourse on ethical topics in all areas of society from the perspective of Catholic Social Teaching. The successful candidate is expected to be responsible for the entire spectrum of Ethics and Social Studies/Catholic Social Teaching in research and teaching in the degree programmes of Catholic Theology (Theology, Teaching Degree in Catholic Religion, Fundamentals of Theology) as well as in the human and cultural studies degree programmes supervised by the Faculty of Catholic Theology (Applied Ethics, Teaching Degree in Ethics and Religion-Culture-Society) in research and teaching.

It is expected that the successful candidate will continue and expand interdisciplinary research projects with other subjects from different faculties and with international partners. The thematic focus of this professorship should cover fields such as, for instance, the ethics of digitalisation and digital transformation, peace ethics, business ethics or comparative ethics of religions. Participation in the field of excellence “Smart Regulation” and the university research network “Human Factor in Digital Transformation” is preferred. We also expect gender mainstreaming skills.

Skills/Qualifications

Austrian or equivalent foreign higher education degree corresponding with the position (doctorate/PhD)
• Habilitation or equivalent qualification in Ethics and Social Studies/Catholic Social Teaching
• Outstanding academic qualifications in research and teaching in the relevant discipline and for the profile of the professorship (commensurate with stage of academic career and interruptions in employment due to caring responsibilities)
• Success in attracting subject-specific project grants, particularly where competitively awarded third-party funds are concerned
• Skills in higher education didactics including the use of digital media
• Skills in the supervision and guidance of early stage researchers
• Professional experience abroad during academic career
• Management and leadership experience
• Gender mainstreaming skills
• Relevant teaching experience in the subject of Ethics and Social Studies / Catholic Social Teaching
• Willingness to teach in English
• Outstanding knowledge of German and good knowledge of English
• Willingness to participate in ethics committees / ethics counselling
