The Center for Language Evolution Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in an NCN-funded OPUS project titled: “Paths to Polysemy: Integrating Approaches to the Role of Polysemy in the Evolutionary Dynamics of Language.”

This is a full-time research position focusing on the role of polysemy in language evolution. The candidate is expected to have a PhD in linguistics, cognitive science or a related field, with a specialisation in language evolution research, especially vocal learning and language evolution. The successful candidate will work on experimental and cross-cultural research, contributing to a deeper understanding of how polysemy influences language evolution.

The goal of the project is to combine cognitive and experimental approaches, especially in the domain of experimental semiotics, to understand how polysemy plays a role in the cultural evolution of language. A special focus of the project lies on cross-cultural differences in the evolutionary paths of polysemy and meaning extension.
