This postdoctoral position is offered as part of the CHICA-AI project (ANR-23-CE23-0036), funded by the French National Research Agency and running from March 2024 to February 2028. CHICA-AI (Training CHIldren Reading Comprehension Skills with Adapted Artificial Intelligence) aims to develop an AI-driven computer-assisted learning system to analyze and assess oral summaries produced by French students in 4th and 5th grades (CM2 and sixième).


Position Overview

The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to the development of technologies for automatically evaluating children's oral summaries. This work supports CHICA-AI’s broader goal of reducing reading inequalities through an AI-based learning platform.


Key Responsibilities


  2. Study and Analysis of Spontaneous Speech
    • Investigate the linguistic characteristics of children’s spontaneous speech.
    • Integrate insights from cognitive science and natural language processing (NLP).

  4. Development of Self-Supervised Speech Models
    • Design and train deep learning models for processing children’s speech.
    • Leverage self-supervised learning techniques to enhance the robustness of automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems.

  6. Collaboration with Project Partners
    • Work closely with LIA (Laboratoire Informatique d’Avignon), responsible for developing NLP systems that analyze speech transcripts.
    • Contribute to the prediction of key quality indicators for oral summaries, such as coherence, relevance, and fluency.

  8. Integration into the Lalilo Platform
    • Assist in embedding the developed models into Lalilo, an interactive learning platform.
    • Support the delivery of personalized feedback to help students improve their oral summarization skills.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of AI, education, and linguistics, contributing to innovative solutions that support children's reading comprehension and learning.


It is offered for an initial duration of one year, with the possibility of extension for an additional year.
