The Narratives Research Group at the Department of Culture and Language, University of Southern Denmark, welcomes applicants to the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025 (MSCA-PF).
If you are an early career researcher with high potential and ambition to advance in humanities research, you are invited to apply for this programme to develop your postdoctoral project idea in close collaboration with an excellent senior researcher from the Narratives Research Group, acting as supervisor in your project.
The Narratives Research Group is a vibrant environment with scholars from Comparative Literature, History, Classical Studies, English Studies, Danish Studies, German Studies, Middle East Studies, Religious Studies, and Cultural Studies. The group establishes an interdisciplinary forum for research into the historical, political, religious, and literary narratives that permeate all cultures, past and present.
The topics range from religious myths, legends, and fairy tales to historical works and political ideologies, as well as cultural imaginaries and fictional narratives. With methodological basis in critical heritage studies, narrative historiography, and memory studies (among other approaches), its focus is on three superordinate problem areas: (1) Narratives & community – analyzing power structures behind the creation and maintenance of cultural narratives; (2) Narratives & information – analyzing narrative elements in the information society’s exchange of knowledge and ideas; (3) Narratives & change – analyzing the relation of historical, political, religious, and scientific narratives to societal engagement and the desire for change.
The group includes internationally acknowledged senior scholars with specialisms in Hans Christian Andersen and fairy tales; early modern Scandinavian history and popular narratives; early modern historical drama; postmigration narratives and cultural memory; postcolonial climate literature; Qur'anic studies and Islamic traditions. The applicant’s project can be anchored in any of these or neighbouring fields.
About the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships
The MSCA-PF is one of the most prestigious schemes of the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research & Innovation programme. It aims at enhancing the career development of researchers in Europe through funding of excellent and ambitious projects, international mobility and advanced training. The grants cover the fellow’s salary, a mobility allowance, research costs and overhead for the host institution.
There are two types of postdoctoral grants:
- European Postdoctoral Fellowships for researchers of any nationality, coming from any country in the world, applying with University of Southern Denmark as host institution. Secondments in other research or industrial organisations are possible. The standard duration is 12 to 24 months.
- Global Postdoctoral Fellowships for European nationals or long-term residents applying with University of Southern Denmark as host institution, but with an outgoing phase of minimum 12 and maximum 24 months at an institution outside EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries, and a mandatory 12-month return phase to the University of Southern Denmark.
