The postdoc position is in the framework of the European project “Sustainable Mining of REE in Europe” (SuMREE; PI: Cristina Villanova de Benavent), and within the MinResET Research Group (2021-SGR-00239). The aim of the Universitat de Barcelona partner in this project is to study the potential of the karst bauxites of the Iberian Peninsula as rare earth element (REE) sources, and to characterise the REE-bearing minerals.

The tasks of the postdoc fellow include: participation in field work campaigns to sample different karst bauxite deposits; sample preparation and data interpretation of whole rock geochemistry and powder X-ray diffraction; petrographic characterisation by optical microscopy; compositional and textural characterisation of REE-bearing minerals, by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron microprobe (EMP), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM, with sample preparation involving focussed ion beam-SEM); and whole rock geochemistry and mineral chemistry data analysis using geostatistics.

The postdoc fellow will collaborate and participate in scientific discussions with other members of the research team; manage and analyse the data obtained, ensuring maximum quality, accuracy, resolution and reproducibility; presentation of the results in national and international conferences, seminars, and in internal meetings; write reports, articles or scientific publications in high impact journals.
