The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS) announces a temporary postdoctoral position, funded by the Bulgarian Scientific Programme “Enhancing the Research Capacity in Mathematical Sciences” (PIKOM).

Topic: Lie theory, projective geometry and geometric invariant theory

Annotation: The prospective researcher is expected to contribute to a research group in geometry and representation theory. One suggested project is the development of structure theory of reductive Lie or algebraic groups, related to projective geometry, and aimed at constructive methods in geometric invariant theory. Related topics concern equivariant structures on homogeneous spaces, flag varieties, symmetric spaces, spherical varieties, projective geometry of orbits in representation spaces, secant varieties and osculating varieties, momentum maps and properties of momentum polytopes, equivariant stratifications, geometric invariant theory, branching laws for representations. Strong candidates with background in other related fields are also encouraged to apply.

The duration of the position is 7 months under the programme PIKOM. The duration can be extended depending on the obtained results and on funding received under other programmes. It is a research-only position, no teaching is required, and the evaluation will be based only on the scientific results.

The starting date is June 1, 2025, approximately. Working language is English or Bulgarian.

The approved researchers will be affiliated with the International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia (ICMS-Sofia), https://icms.bg/, which is part of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and with an appropriate department.
