The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS) announces a temporary postdoctoral position, funded by the Bulgarian Scientific Programme “Enhancing the Research Capacity in Mathematical Sciences” (PIKOM).

Topic: Frontiers of tropical geometry

Annotation: A successful candidate will be provided an opportunity to contribute to challenging a common cliché that "tropical geometry is a combinatorial shadow of algebraic geometry", by learning and applying tropical ideas to specific problems in the adjacent fields which may include convex, differential, symplectic and non-commutative geometry, geometric topology, complex analysis, number theory, Lie groups, mathematical physics and complex systems. Experience in one or a combination of these areas is required, familiarity with tropical geometry is an advantage.

The duration of the position is 7 months under the programme PIKOM. The duration can be extended depending on the obtained results and on funding received under other programmes. It is a research-only position, no teaching is required, and the evaluation will be based only on the scientific results.

The starting date is June 1, 2025, approximately. Working language is English or Bulgarian.

The approved researchers will be affiliated with the International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia (ICMS-Sofia), https://icms.bg/, which is part of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and with an appropriate department.
