The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IMI-BAS) announces two temporary postdoctoral positions, funded by the Bulgarian Scientific Programme “Enhancing the Research Capacity in Mathematical Sciences” (PIKOM).

Topic: Variational Analysis and Applications in Optimization

Annotation: The successful candidates will conduct research in variational analysis, with a particular emphasis on its applications in optimization. This research may include topics such as non-smooth and set-valued analysis, differential geometric methods, numerical approximation methods, regularity theory for optimization problems. Special attention will be given to applications in optimal control for ODE and PDE problems. Research on model predictive control, data-driven control, and the integration of machine learning into optimal control frameworks will also be strongly encouraged.

Advisors: Vladimir Veliov and Mikhail Krastanov

The duration of the positions is 12 months. The duration can be extended depending on the obtained results and on funding received under different programmes. It is a research-only position, no teaching is required, and the evaluation will be based only on the scientific results.

The starting date is June 1, 2025, approximately. Working language is English or Bulgarian.

The approved researchers will be affiliated with the International Center for Mathematical Sciences – Sofia (ICMS-Sofia), https://icms.bg/, which is part of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and with an appropriate department.
