The Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning invites applications for a 

ProfessorSHIP (W3) Architectural Design and Buildung Construction

(Entwerfen und Baukonstruktion)

commencing on April, 1st 2026.

The Institute of Architecture in the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning at BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg is responsible for the architecture degree programs and provides project-based design teaching with its eight professorships. The Chair of Architectural Design and Building Construction is responsible for the basic course and special topics of building construction in the faculty's degree programs - especially in architecture and civil engineering - as well as for design projects in all phases of the degree program, alternating with other chairs in offering design studios at all levels. Applicants are expected to be practicing architects with a focus on design and building construction who are qualified to analyze complex building tasks from a cultural, functional, artistic and technical perspective, implement them at an outstanding level and are qualified to convey the associated methods and strategies to students.

Research activities may derive from aspects of building construction as well as architectural design. A special focus should be on sustainable architecture with a holistic approach to construction, material and spatial and sociological qualities of the built environment.

Research focus lies in the methods of fabrication and the use of innovative building materials. Pronounced interest in national and international cooperation as well as in interdisciplinary work within the faculty and the university is expected. Active participation in the university's self-governance and self-administration is required of all teaching staff.

Applicants must have sound knowledge and experience in design and planning methodology, particularly in building construction. Outstanding skills from the implementation of complex architectural services in realized projects are required.

We are looking for:

... a nationally and internationally recognised personality with qualified experience in the fields of architectural design and building construction – as proven by successful competition entries and acclaimed completed projects. The professorship should represent the above-mentioned fields in research as well as perform teaching duties in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in German and English. If there is no sufficient knowledge of German, acquiring German language skills as soon as possible is essential to ensure cooperation in the management of the institute, the faculty and in self-governance as well as teaching in German.

Your profile:

As a future professor, you can provide evidence of the following requirements in accordance with § 43 Sect. 1 No. 1 - 4a Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG):

• a completed university degree in Architecture,
• pedagogical aptitude,
• a special aptitude for academic work, as a rule through the outstanding quality of a doctorate or equivalent achievements , and
• postdoctoral teaching qualification (German “Habilitation”) or additional academic achievements as an equivalent.

Furthermore, you have experience in the acquisition of third-party funding and in the implementation of third-party funded projects. Your research topics should be relevant to the DFG or comparable international research funding institutions.

Your university teaching experience enables excellent teaching for the subject area to be filled here. You have the ability to teach at all curricular levels from bachelor's to doctorate, to supervise theses and to support young academics. Your knowledge and experience enable you to participate in academic self-administration and in raising the profile of the faculty.

Notwithstanding the requirements listed above, an appointment is also possible in accordance with § 43 (4) BbgHG.
