The Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides independent, evidence-based knowledge and science, supporting EU policies to positively impact society.

The current vacancy is in the Innovation Policies and Economic Impact Unit of Directorate B for Fair and Sustainable Economy. Directorate B's mission is to deliver top-notch analysis and data, fostering fair and sustainable prosperity for today's and tomorrow's Europeans. It takes a holistic approach to economic activities, environmental impacts, and EU citizens' needs. With its analytical tools, Directorate B supports policymaking, boosts EU competitiveness, and promotes environmental sustainability in markets, industry, services, and construction.

The Innovation Policies and Economic Impact Unit assesses the performance and impacts, in particular at territorial and industrial levels, of major EU policies and EU investments and shapes them, through innovation policies, towards a fair and sustainable economy. To do so, it provides socio-economic intelligence, to EU, national, regional and local decision makers, using a broad set of analytical tools and economic models.

As part of this Unit, the TEDAM (Territorial Data, Analysis and Modelling) team is looking for
an applied economist / data analyst to work under the REMO pillar and contribute to the
European Commission’s analysis, monitoring and impact assessments of different EU
policies at the territorial level (NUTS2 regions).

WE PROPOSE

The new colleague will work as an economic analyst - applied economist / data analyst within the REMO pillar of the TEDAM team, working closely with team members. The main responsibilities of the role include conducting statistical and econometric analyses to support impact assessments, as well as updating and expanding the novel regional data system on EU policies used by the team under the Territorial Economic Data viewer (TEDv). This will involve working with territorial indicators from EUROSTAT regional statistics (i.e. R&D, employment, and sectoral info), data on EU policies such as ESIF and Horizon Europe, and micro-level data including LFS, SILC, CIS.

The role will also require collaboration with other European Commission services, as well as relevant international organisations and research institutions. The work is expected to have a strong impact on policy and visibility, requiring significant effort in external communication and dissemination to policy and scientific fora.
