Senior Scientist (w/m/d) with a doctorate for Acoustics and Audio Technology

The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz – the KUG – with around 2,300 students at its campuses in Graz and Oberschützen, is an international university offering a wide range of courses in music and the performing arts. Located in the heart of Europe, we build on the cultural heritage of our region and at the same time explore and contribute to current trends in the contemporary arts. At the intersection between technology and the arts, the institute of electronic music and acoustics (IEM) combines experimental research in technologies and perception with the development and exploration of the arts. IEM hereby aims to assume a pioneering role in the development of the newest technological developments and musical and artistic practices. With IEM’s roots in computer music, acoustics and audio technology, the rich and special infrastructure of IEM facilitates investigating inter- and transdisciplinary questions by scientific and artistic research.

Your duties

• Joint grant proposal application targeting pioneering research projects (ERC, EU, FWF, FFG) together with the peers at IEM
• Taking responsibilities in the organization of scientific events (e.g. the Forum Acusticum 2026 conference)
• Support of third-mission (public outreach) activities of IEM 
• independent teaching of courses and holding exams 
• independent research activities
• supervision of students
• participation is essential in research projects and teaching duties in the organisational unit
• participation in examinations
• participation in organisational, administrative and evaluation duties 
• 
  

Your profile

• completion of the doctorate in an appropriate professional study area
• Successful publication activities in the scientific community
• Good relations and networks to the scientific community 
• Research experience in spatial audio technology, perceptual evaluation, virtual/augmented acoustics and reality
• Experience in teaching/advising at university level (e.g. in the abovementioned areas)
• Nice to have: Interest in exploring the transdisciplinary application of research results in contemporary artistic music and media arts
• Nice to have: experience in organizing scientific events
• sensitivity in dealing with gender, diversity and sustainability

Experience in the field of Science Communication (Science Outreach) is welcome.

Contract: Position limited until 30.09.2029

Level of employment: Part-time, employment extent of 75% of full-employment

Salary: Collective agreement minimum monthly gross salary currently € 3.699,68 (14 x annually); a higher salary may be negotiated.
